DESIGN: 2008  CONSTRUCTION: 2009

The project was about the addition of a two storey wooden residence of the Finnish factory KONTIO, onto an existing basement, which was made out of concrete. The new wooden building follows the outline of the basement, and has two floors with bedrooms in the first floor and daily spaces in the ground floor, constructed by WANDS – A ΒΑΣΙΛΑΙΝΑΣ E.E.

The building is oriented to the South, with large openings for exploiting the winter sunlight. In the summer, the building is protected by overhangs and canopies. The large balcony in the bedrooms of the first floor, also serves as a shelter of the large openings of the ground floor, while part of the roof is cut, so that the remaining portion of it will act as a shading and ventilation canopy of the bedrooms.

The North façade has small windows for the water areas, and the western side is closed to cope with adverse weather conditions during the winter and the harsh summer sun which falls horizontally. Ventilation skylights area placed between the two parts of the roof, in the bedrooms of the first floor, with north orientation. The entrance is well protected on the northeast corner of the house, enabling the creation of a microclimate in the plot, creating a comfortable environment throughout the year.
